Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Faculty of Political Sciences and the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade

Faculty of Political Sciences and Council of Europe agreed to cooperate and to jointly organize two international scientific conferences: on regulatory framework for media during elections and on regulatory framework for freedom of expression on the Internet.

The results of both conferences will be two publications, in which eminent professors and researchers from various European Universities and Institutes will author the articles on required topics. As both Compendiums will be published in English and in Serbian, they will greatly contribute to quality of education on freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Serbia, as students, future journalists, media actors and decision makers, will be offered up-to date literature in their local language. At the same time, the books in English language will contribute to wider scientific debates on those issues on the international level.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade and the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade under the joint EU/CoE initiative “Horizontal facility for Western Balkan and Turkey (2019-2022)” and under the action on “Freedom of expression and freedom of the media (JUFREX)”, with the aim of contributing to the quality of education on freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Serbia. Joint activities will be implemented from 2020 to 2022.

The action aims at improving the respect of human rights standards, through enhancing the knowledge and application of European standards in the field of freedom of expression and the media in the daily work of all relevant actors, and that way, contribute to creation of enabling environment for exercise and protection of these rights.

The European Union/Council of Europe “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022” project is a co-operation initiative of the European Union and Council of Europe that enables the beneficiaries to meet their reform agendas in the fields of human rights, rule of law and democracy and to comply with the European standards, including where relevant within the framework of the EU enlargement process.
