Master academic international studies – module: European studies

This module offers students to study the European Union in important aspects of its organization and functioning. It contains courses dealing with complex political communities, constitutional nature of the EU and its public policies, such are the economic and monetary union. In addition, this module prepares students for exploration of causes and consequences of contemporary EU administrative crisis management, questions its role as a global actor and comprehends current relations between Serbia and the EU.

Several mandatory and elective courses within this master module are conducted with support of the European Commission through Erasmus+ Jean Monnet programme, aimed at enhancing the development of quality European Integration studies worldwide.

Students of this module have opportunities to listen to lectures and participate in discussions with some of the most prominent professors and teachers from Serbia and abroad in the field of European studies, international law, constitutional law, theory of federalism, political economy etc. The teaching staff includes:

-          Prof. Slobodan Samardžić, founder of European studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences and Jean Monnet Professor;

-          Prof. Thomas Fleiner, University of Fribourg, Switzerland, founder and longtime director of the Swiss Institute of Federalism, foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts;

-          Prof. Lidija Basta Fleiner, permanent visiting professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences, former professor of the University of Fribourg and director of the international consulting and research centre at the Institute of Federalism in Fribourg;

-          Prof. Branko Vasiljević, Full Professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade;

-          Prof. Vesna Knežević-Predić, Full Professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade and director of the Centre for the EU public policies;

-          Prof. Tanja Miščević, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences and head of the negotiating team for Serbia’s accession to the EU;

-          Prof. Maja Kovačević, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences and former director of the federal EU accession office;

-          Bojan Kovačević, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences; teacher at the courses in European Regionalism (undergraduate studies) and The EU Constitutional Policy and The EU Crisis Management (master);

-          Ivana Radić Milosavljević, MA, Assistant at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade; associate at the courses in Political System of the European Union (undergraduate studies) and The EU Constitutional Policy and The EU Crisis Management (master).

The teaching is done in Serbian and English. The teachers use the most recent literature and deal with current topics of European Integration theory and practice, through interactive teaching methods and modern means of communication with students.

Many courses provide readers for preparation for lectures, seminars and exams.

All candidates take entrance examination.

Entrance examination is carried out through an interview of each candidate with the entrance commission. The interview includes questions related to the knowledge and experience of candidates in the fields of European studies and European integration.
