Master academic studies of political studies of religion

Description and regime of studies

Master academic Political Studies of Religion are the first studies of this kind in Europe. Students will have an opportunity to obtain theoretical and practical knowledge about the following topics: What is jihad, its origins, carrying out, when and how it (if at all) can stop; What is Islamic state, its origins, ideological basis, borders, Balkan base; What is religious fundamentalism and terrorism; How different religions influence European integration; What is the impact of religion on social policy, economy, democratization process, interreligious dialogue. Students will be trained for analysis of religious conflicts and understanding of the role of religion in contemporary international relations.

The studies are organized in two semesters. Mandatory courses are Political Thoughts of Great Religions in the first semester and Religion and Social Policy in the second semester. In addition, students are obliged to attend and pass three elective courses per each semester. Elective courses are: Conflicts and Dialogue; Political Systems of Latin America; Religion as Means for Resolving World Social Problems; Geopolitics and Geoeconomy; Analysis of Religious Conflicts; Democratization and Religion; Economic Ideologies of Contemporary Religious Systems; Religions and Contemporary World; Religious Fundamentalism and Extremism.

At the end of the studies student is obliged to register, write and defend his/her master paper.

Entrance examination

Interview with a commission, based on the following book: Miroljub Jevtić, Politikologija religije, Centar za proučavanje religije i versku toleranciju, Beograd, 2009.
