Aim and outcome of the course

The aim of the course The EU Environmental Policy is to provide and offer to students necessary knowledge about the character of environmental problems of the European Union and their organized resolving. In that sense they acquire basic knowledge about basic fields of legislative activity of the Union regarding protection of basic elements of environment as well as functions of subjects of environmental policy in the Union, primarily having in mind the political aspect of their functioning in creation and carrying out of environmental policy. The syllabus consists of three interconnected parts which include research of emergence and development of environmental policy and basis of environmental legislation of the EU. The second part includes the manner of application and realization of environmental policy of the EU, first of all through application of principles of environmental policy, while the third part is directed to research of the role of subjects of environmental policy in phases of designing and realization of the environmental policy of the EU.

As result of studies on this course students shall be trained to understand the process of emergence and development of environmental policy of the European Union, as well as basic economic and political motives which determined Europe to environmentalize its economic development. Students shall gain knowledge which shall enable them to participate in the processes of harmonization of domestic environmental legislation with environmental legislation of the EU and to participate or independently manage national and international projects of environmental protection.
