About the Faculty
University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Science (FPS) is a leading higher education institution the Republic of Serbia and the Southeast European region. It was founded in 1968 as the first teaching and research institution of its kind in Yugoslavia. It is part of the University of Belgrade, a higher education institution of national importance and one of the best universities in this part of Europe, whose status is consistently confirmed by international rankings.
The Faculty focuses on education and research in the fields of political science, international studies, journalism and communication, social policy and social work. Its teaching and research staff consists of more than 90 full-time professors, complemented by regular visits from prominent foreign and domestic experts. At the postgraduate level, classes are conducted in both Serbian and English.
The Faculty of Political Science is the only public higher education institution in Serbia specializing in political science, and it is the alma mater of founders and lecturers at numerous faculties of political science across the region. Today, FPS is a modern and open school of democracy and democratic political culture, capable of responding to the imperatives of political existence in our society and its international environment.
Since its founding, more than 15,000 students have graduated from the Faculty, over 1,200 have earned a master’s degree, and more than 800 have obtained a doctorate.
The Faculty is a well-known and recognized global educational and research center. FPS collaborates with the most significant scientific institutions in the country and with prestigious foreign university centers. Within the Faculty, numerous research centers operate, specializing in specific areas of study, and a well-developed publishing activity exists in its core scientific fields.
Currently, around 3,500 students attend classes at FPS. The Faculty fosters an interdisciplinary and comparative approach to education through lectures, exercises, seminars, workshops, and practical work in specialized fields.
