This talk will discuss the recent rise of populist governments in Latin and the growing wave of resistance against them. Following the "pink tide" of the 2000s, the region now faces a backlash against the identity politics and minority protections put in place by progressive governments. The resulting conservative governments have in turn faced resistance to their dismantling of these measures, as well as to neoliberal policies that have exacerbated economic inequalities. The talk will cover how these processes have played out in Brazil, Chile and Bolivia over the past year.
