Call to conference “The Global Town Hall”

Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia, this time together with Global Citizen, will once again run a worldwide consortium of reputable civil society organizations, think tanks, and universities in convening the virtual Global Town Hall with the theme “Sustaining Peace and Development in a Divided World.”

The purpose of the Global Town Hall is to provide an independent, open, and dynamic platform to bring together world leaders, leading minds and concerned citizens worldwide in a dialogue on the state of the world, and to facilitate discussions on key issues that the community of nations are grappling with.

The Global Town Hall thereby promotes a genuine and high-quality East-West and North-South dialogue at the grassroots level, in interactive discussions on and around such topics as: the global situation in 2022, current geopolitical developments, the deliberations in the G20, the war in Ukraine, climate change, the global economy, the ongoing food, energy and financial crises, the role and aspirations of the youth, the perceptions and advocacies of celebrities, etc.

Last year, this conference attracted over 12,000 participants from 122 countries, and was joined by 27 think tanks, 40 civil society organizations, and 38 universities from around the world.

The Global Town Hall this year will again be a marathon global discussion covering different time zones worldwide, including those of Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Russia, Canada, North America, and Latin America. It will run for 15 hours from 09.00 until 24.00 (GMT+7) to accommodate speakers, panelists, and audiences in various time zones – hence “around the world, around the clock.”

The conference will feature at least 10 session panels, slated for 60 to 75 minutes of town hall discussions. All will be conducted virtually.
