Experiences of alumni:

„I am proud to be an alumna of the MA SEE programme, which offered contemporary literature and analysis that remain highly relevant today. The programme brought together outstanding professors from leading European and American universities, creating a truly international academic environment. The knowledge and perspectives I gained continue to guide me in my current role as a manager in the civil society sector in Albania and across the Western Balkans. The interdisciplinary approach and critical thinking skills I developed have proven invaluable in addressing complex social and regional challenges.

On a personal note, I will always cherish the life‑changing experience of being part of a Master’s programme that was truly avant‑garde, even ahead of the Berlin Process. It promoted intra‑regional academic mobility long before this became a mainstream priority, and it anticipated several initiatives that are now central to European higher education. This programme gave me not only knowledge but also a vision of cooperation and integration that continues to inspire my work today.”

Lutjona Lula, Albania

“As for the programme, in short when looking back: for me personally the programme gave me a great allround insight and knowledge about Southeastern Europe which still is very useful for me until today. I liked the multidisciplenary approach through which all facets of the region were gradually highlighted. It gives you a good overview and makes sure students “get the bigger picture” about the region. Big plusses for me were:

  • Small multinational class groups, personal approach of the professors
  • Opportunity to learn Serbo-Croatian
  • Living in a big city like Belgrade in the heart of Southeastern Europe
  • Opportunity for exchange in the 2nd year (in my case i went to Novi Sad which was also a great experience)
  • Currently I am working as a Liaison Officer for the Belgian Ministry of Interior, in this capacity i am responsible for the Western Balkans. The background i got during my studies help me every day in my professional carreer.”
